Key Meeting Details

When: Tuesday, July 1st, 2024 - Wicklow County Council Ordinary Meeting

Purpose: Community representatives presented Herbert Road closure concerns to council members

Location: Bray Town Hall

Community Representation

Speakers delivered powerful presentations representing all community perspectives, with dedicated representatives from residential areas, local traders, and Kilbride Church. Each speaker clearly outlined the devastating impact that TII's and Wicklow County Council's current plans will have on our community and the town's prosperity. They emphasised the deep frustration felt over the continued disregard shown by the Wicklow CoCo Executive and TII toward community concerns.

Councillors were also challenged on their lack of visible support for community campaigns and were urged to take more direct action to protect this vital road.

Council Response

While councillors acknowledged they should have a stronger presence, they explained their limited political power over this issue, noting that this is ultimately a government matter and that lobbying at the government level is the necessary next step.

What This Means

The councillors have successfully secured a crucial meeting with Tánaiste Simon Harris and Minister for Transport Daragh O'Brien on Wednesday, 9th July at the Dáil. Given the Tánaiste's public support for our campaign, we are optimistic that constructive progress will be made.

This represents a major breakthrough in our campaign, as engagement with government ministers provides an significant opportunity to present our concerns at the highest level of decision-making.

This event marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing discussion around the Herbert Road proposal and demonstrates that our collective efforts and concerns are finally being heard!

Please continue to support the campaign and stay informed about further developments.
